The National Severe Weather and Flood Coordination Group met today.
There are two severe weather events for today and tomorrow. Today all of the Republic of Ireland is under a yellow weather warning with the usual potential impact of:
• Water safety issues due to increased use of lakes/beaches
• Uncomfortable sleeping conditions
• Heat stress
• Forest fires a possibility
This is valid until 09:00 on Saturday
The second severe weather event for is a yellow warning for thunderstorms in Donegal and Connacht. Valid from 15:00 on Thursday to 18:00 on Friday. Possible impacts include:
• Localised flooding
• Lightning damage
• Hail
• Hazardous driving conditions
• Gusty winds
Met Eireann has warned that given the intensity of the temperatures their weather predictive models are struggling to give an accurate picture on where the thunderstorms will hit so further meetings may be held later today. There is a potential for what they described as catastrophic thunderstorms with 15 to 25mm rain in localised areas.
For now, Tipperary is not in the warning area.
